Lower back pain. any sufferers?
Got up this morning right as rain, had breakfast, dropped spoon on the floor, went to pick it up and…………ahhhhhhhhhhhh WTF ive caught Dimitri Payet?

Got myself to the Doctor, which was a struggle in itself, just putting shoes and socks on was agony, who just said pain killers is all they can give me and it will slowly go in its own time, and now its happened once it will likely happen again, fucking great I thought.

Anyone else have this and any suggestions to ease the pain or speed the recovery, or how to prevent it happening again as currently im like a crippled old man, fuck it hurts when I move, cant even lie down without the dull aching pain, and all right out of the blue.

Doc reckons a back spasm, torn ligament or muscle, but its almost impossible to know which or why it occurred, do yoga he told me!!!!

Lay down on your front for 20 mins a day
Use anti inflammatory tablets
Go swimming

Ask (insist) on an mri scan.

Have a blood test to see if you are HLA-B27 positive.

53 Joe, very fit and active, gym about 5 days a week, not overweight, this was a real bolt from the blue, not like i was doing anything physical at the time, just bent down to pick up the spoon.

Doctor didn't seem too concerned, said its more common than you think, but fuck its laid me up all day and will for a good few more i reckon.

Same happened to me...lifting a spanner off a low table...

Pain killers...horizontal rest with no lifting or low bending for a few days...

Then bought a back brace...helped a lot...
no problems since...but always wear it when lifting anything over a few pounds...

And...always bend knees when lifting anything...never by bending the back...

Brace only cost 15dollars but works great. find something similar ...in OZ I'm sure.

You may be to old to have what I thought you may have . I would still do what I said . If nothing else just for your own peace of mind.

Most doctors don't understand back pain and just pack you off with pain killers .

You might have a disc problem where it pops and the soft centre oozes out onto the spinal nerves. It can be excruciating and last months in various degrees of comfort...

Happened to me years ago when I leant over to pick up a newspaper, I know the agony. Went to see an excellent Osteo who put it right but it took several days.

Happened several times since then but (touch wood) not recently. Same Osteo + gentle exercise, when I remember, have helped.

long term bad back sufferer myself, leave it 3 days if it hasnt inproved at all youve done something, I dont mean fully back to normal i mean an improvement in 3 days, Dont increase the inflamation. by putting deep heat or anything warming on your injury , ice is what you need to put on it, half hour on half hour off , repeat

Good luck syders

I get that too, comes along about once every 3 or 4 months, I'm lucky that it's mild. The first twinge takes your breath away then over a few days it gets less and less. Starts in the buttock ( left or right ) and goes down the leg.

Re: Lower back pain. any sufferers?
I have these spasms quite often. Been to docs numerous times and then I went private and found the answer.
My left leg is slightly shorter than my right, which is incredibly common and I am without knowing it, compensating for this, which brings on these spasms. I can reach down and pick up a sock, stretch up and bang, the pain is excruciating. I was given a small "lift" to put in my left shoe to bring the height up equally. This has improved my posture greatly.

Good point about posture, Second Opinion. I know mine is bad, got a bad gait and the soles on shoes wear down on one side.

I had a savage bout of sciatica about a year and a half ago, was on my Right side usually left, Every time I stood up the weight obviuosly transfered to the spine and ruined me, I went on youtube to get some decent advice, American Chiropractor, strteches were not of the raised leg and back stretches variety, He said it did more bad than good if you really had a trapped nerve so he did pelvic streches that gives the spine more room, worked actually plus icing every half hour

I have back problems probably 2-3 times a year. Doctor just hands out tablets. Went to an osteopath a few years back and that did the trick. I really should go once a year to get checked out and put back in place.

For the past 2 months, I have been wearing inside my shoes some insoles from Scholl, they are called Orthaheel. Supposed to help with lower back pain. So far, no twinges in my back and they seem to help when walking. Worth a try, but not cheap.

Re: Lower back pain. any sufferers?
That sonds suspiciously like what I had a few years that ago, I ricked my back climbing out of a window (it was torn muscle that had a nerve, the psoas nerve, running up the middle). The nerve damage triggered back spasms which are no fun at all.

Firstly get some proper pain relief, I had Naproxen and Dizaepam which spuresses the back spasms,
Secondly keep your back moving - the worst thing you can do lie down no matter how tempting. The best things I found for that was swimming (as already mentioned) and be very careful what you do for a few weeks. It might not feel like it now but it will go in the end,
